Spoken English classes for kids: 5 questions to ask before you pay
Every month a parent tells me they paid for a year of English classes and their child still will not open their mouth in class. The course was not necessarily bad. It was just never checked against the right questions.
Ask these five before you pay anyone, including us.
1. How many children are in one batch?
This is the question that decides everything else. Above eight kids, your child gets a few minutes of speaking per class. Below six, they cannot hide, which is exactly what you want.
If the counsellor dodges the number, that is your answer.
2. Who exactly will teach my child?
Not the qualification on the website. The actual human. How long have they taught children online? Can you watch a trial class with that teacher, not a star trainer who disappears after week one?
3. How does my child get speaking time?
Ask how the class makes sure every child speaks, including the quiet ones. You are looking for a plan, like turns, pairs, or small activities, not just a confident few answering while the rest listen.
4. What happens after I pay?
Know the schedule, how you join the class, and the fee and pause terms before paying. Anything important should be confirmed in writing, even if it is just a message. Clear terms protect both sides.
5. How will I see my child's progress?
Ask how the teacher keeps you updated on your own child: what they did in class, what is improving, and what to practise at home. Regular, specific updates matter far more than generic testimonials.
Our answers, since you will ask: max six per batch, I teach every session myself, every child speaks and writes every class, and our student story clips are right on the homepage. Happy to answer all five for PoloEnglish before you decide.
