How to improve English speaking at home without a tutor

You do not need a tutor to start speaking better English. You need a mouth that moves in English every day. Most learners read plenty and speak almost never. That is the whole gap.

These four habits take about twenty minutes a day combined. They look too simple. Do them for two weeks before deciding they do not work.

Talk to yourself for five minutes

Pick a topic. What you cooked. What annoyed you at work. Then speak about it, out loud, in English, for five minutes. Nobody is listening, so there is nothing to be scared of.

You will get stuck. Good. Notice the exact word you reached for and did not have. Write it down. That list becomes your real vocabulary syllabus.

Repeat one scene from a show

Take a two minute scene from any English show you like. Play one line. Pause. Say it back in the same tone, same speed. Then the next line.

Actors are free pronunciation coaches. This is also the fastest cure I know for flat, robotic delivery.

Record yourself once a week

Thirty seconds on your phone. Describe your day. Then listen back.

The first time is painful for everyone. Keep the recordings. A month later, play the first one again. You will hear progress your mirror never shows you.

Learn phrases, not words

Nobody speaks in single words. Learn "I have been meaning to tell you" instead of "meaning". Learn "as far as I know" instead of "far". Phrases come out of your mouth ready made. Single words need assembly every time.

When self practice stops being enough and you want live correction, that is what our adult Spoken English batches are for. Small groups, real conversations, honest feedback.
